FRUITS OF LABOUR
INFORMATION DESIGN
THE CLIENT & PROJECT
Pregnancy is a natural process of life that has been long studied. Due to this, there is a lot of information on this topic that can be overwhelming to find and read through for some. The Fruits of Your Labour is an infographic that was made to summarize the process while also providing a visual representation of the size of the fetus and an associated food item of a similar size.
THE TOOLS
Google Docs
Illustrator
THE PURPOSE
Creating this infographic allowed for the summarization of complex information about a nine month process into a straightforward temporal infographic that the everyday person could understand. With the intention of telling the story of both the pregnant mom and her fetus, this project was intended to be lighthearted while also being informative.
THE STRATEGY
In order to create an infographic on a topic that I was familiar with but not an expert on, I had to first find a reliable source. This source was where I could find data to make notes. From there, I was able to summarize the facts.
The organization of my research of the first trimester on a Google Docs.
THE PROCESS
Research was done by looking at the Week-by-week guide to pregnancy from the NHS website. This page provided detailed information on what to expect each week from the size of the fetus to what happens to the fetus and mother during that week of pregnancy. I wrote out the necessary data and summarized the data into a Google docs for organization of all the information.
I decided not to include the measurements of the fetus as I thought that this may differ from fetus to fetus and may cause stress to a new mother to be if her fetus was not the mentioned size for that week.
Instead, I decided to use the illustrations of the fruits that I created through Adobe Illustrator to provide an approximate size of the fetus.
THE LESSON
I was able to learn how to summarize difficult information about pregnancy into an easy to understand format.
Working in the medical imaging field I had some knowledge on the trimesters prior to this project. However, this infographic did teach me about the fetus’ activities and the symptoms that the mother has throughout the weeks.
