THE PURPOSE
Creating a game that allows individuals to relate to one another was one of the main purposes of this game. This project allows individuals to talk to one another about comments they have received in real life while also playfully commenting back to them.
THE STRATEGY
Using real life experiences that people were willing to share to create a relatable game for players. Making it playful with comments you can say back to aunty, it creates a want to play the game.
The questionnaire used to get anonymous stories of Aunty comments to help with brainstorming.
THE PROCESS
It initially began with brainstorming of ideas and concepts. From there, I knew I had wanted to make the game where the players could talk back to Aunty,
In order to come up with the comments to which the Aunty was going to reply to I needed to think of the Aunty comments. I had asked friends and fellow classmates to provide stories through an Instagram poll and a Google form.
From the stories received, I was able to come up with 5 different Aunty categories: career critic, weight watcher, match maker, advisor and pretty police These aunties would make the comments to which the players would respond.
Through the ideation process, I realized I needed a goal for the players so I came up with a twist, what if you wanted to please Aunty also. That was where the concept changed and the players would pick up a card that would make them an angelic child trying to please aunty throughout the game to maintain their reputation or they were a rebel child trying to lose their reputation.
THE LESSON
I was able to learn that Aunty comments are inevitable. It seemed to be a universal idea for everyone. Coming up with a game and making it functional was harder than I had imagined. I have a new found appreciation for game developers.
